Marci Dickinson - Organist & Handbell Director

I came to St. Andrew's Church in February, 1997 to be the organist. In the next few years I became the director of the Taylor Bell Choir and started the youth bell choir, the Joyful Sounds. I am also an adjunct instructor at Indiana University Southeast where I teach music fundamentals and piano.

Born in California, I studied piano and flute but had no interest in learning to play the organ until I started college at Modesto Junior College and was forced into the organ class by my mother and the Music Department Chairman whose wife taught the organ class. The college had a pipe organ so it was a new and defining experience. I went on to study at Indiana University earning a Bachelor of Music Education degree in flute and a Master of Music degree in church music and organ.

I do believing that education is a life long endeavor, so I continued to study organ with such outstanding teachers as John Walker and Marilyn Keiser.

I met husband Jay while a graduate student at Indiana University.

We were married in Beck Chapel on the university campus. Our one son, David,  received his B.S. in computer science and his J.D. (law degree) from Indiana University. He and his lawyer wife reside in Charleston, S.C. where he is a captain in the United States Air Force.
